I think I think, therefore am I?

Untitled Poem

Cogito, ergo sum’s the phrase for which René Descartes is known,
But it’s a phrase that leaves no room for those whose minds are not their own.
Perhaps it isn’t me who thinks, but some great author penning me.
What if I’m penned but not yet typed, one edit and I cease to be?
I think I think, but might be wrong, and if I’m wrong do I exist?
Perhaps René’s the only one, and I’m just on his extras list,
A fantasy to fool his mind into belief that life goes on
Despite the fact that when he died the only one who was was gone.
I think I think I think I said, but now I think that I was wrong:
Descartes prefers to think I think, and think I hope he thinks it long.
